First steps
So, you have taken the first big step in making the decision to seek counselling, so what next?
Choosing a counsellor can feel overwhelming as there are many different approaches to counselling. However all approaches share one common belief and that is the importance of the “relationship” between the client and counsellor. It is therefore important that you take the time to choose someone who you feel comfortable with.
Free telephone consultation
Sometimes it can help you to make a choice by having an initial telephone conversation. I offer a free telephone consultation prior to assessment so if you would like to find out more about how counselling can help, please give me a call and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have prior to assessment.
Assessment session
The next step is to meet for an "assessment". This is an opportunity for us to find out if we can work together and for you to ask any further questions you may have.
During the assessment we will explore what has brought you to counselling and what your needs are in order to be clear that I am the best person to support you. As a BACP Accredited Counsellor I am committed to working within my professional competence so if I do not feel able to help you I will support you in finding another therapist who can.
Initially we will agree to work together for 8 sessions and review. However, sometimes it can be helpful to work long-term and this will be discussed at the assessment.
Each session is 50 minutes.
